What is Paint Protection Film?
Paint Protection Film (PPF) emerged a few decades ago and has since had a technological facelift, with more people becoming aware of it and choosing it as a protective measure for their vehicles.
Unlike a spray or liquid sealant, PPF is a thermoplastic urethane film applied to the painted surfaces of a vehicle.
Depending on what level of protection you are after, you can select a film that will provide protection from stone chips and abrasions, bug splatters, acid rain, hard water spots, UV exposure and other free radicals, the higher-grade films even have hydrophobic properties and are stain resistant and self-healing.
A Brief History of PPF:
But did you know that these types of films weren’t originally intended for car protection? PPF was initially developed by 3M to solve a problem during the Vietnam War. Back then, helicopter rotor blades and other sensitive parts of military transports were often damaged by flying shrapnel and debris, so to help protect these moving parts, the US military wanted a solution that was both inconspicuous, low-weight and very strong.
3M rose to the challenge, creating a functional solution – a replaceable film to repair the damaged rotor blades, which became widely known as "helicopter tape”.
Benefits of PPF
